Meals on Wheels weekly menu
Meals on Wheels offers take-out lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
The Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.
Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.
The menu on Friday, Sept. 9, is beef Spanish rice or a chicken fajita bowl, sliced carrots, apple cranberry coleslaw, an oat bran wheat roll and confetti cake.
The menu on Monday, Sept. 12, is barbecued chicken or a home-style pork patty with gravy, whipped sweet potatoes, mixed vegetables, onion bread and a chocolate oatmeal bar.
The menu on Tuesday, Sept. 13, is a chicken salad or tuna salad half-sandwich, minestrone soup, marinated corn salad, wheat bread and a golden fruit cup.

Highway 20 closure scheduled
The Oregon Department of Transportation has announced that Hwy. 20 will be completely closed Sept. 9-20 for landslide repair work between Mileposts 55.4 and 56.2, east of House Rock Campground.
Daytime closures will continue through October.
ODOT plans to build a retaining wall and to realign and reconstruct a portion of the road that has been damaged by landslides between Mileposts 56 and 56.2.
It also plans to improve the road surface in portions between Milepost 55.4 and 56.2.
When the road is reopened, work will require daytime single-lane closures from 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., Mondays through Fridays, through October.
Traffic will be controlled by flaggers between mileposts 54 and 57.
Schedules are subject to change, particularly due to wildfires.

Bridges festival Sept. 10 in Scio
Folks of all ages are invited to enjoy the Bridges, Bikes and Brews Festival from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Linn County Lamb and Wool Fairgrounds, 38764 N Ash St., in Scio.
The event features free family-friendly bicycle and guided van tours of historic covered bridges in the area, plus local craft brews, a corn hole tournament, a motorcycle covered bridge poker run, food, music and more.

Designer to speak at women’s dinner
After 5 Connection invites local women to a dinner and special program from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, at Ma’s Restaurant, 2416 S. Santiam Hwy., Lebanon.
Maryann Ewing, a local interior decorator who specializes in specially crafted, custom interiors, will present tips and guidelines for creating the perfect ergonomic workspace, whether at home or at your office.

Guest speaker Jerri Wickert, of Baker City, will discuss how chocolate draws “a powerful link to life.”

Art and wine walk in Lebanon
Lebanon Downtown Association will hold an Art and Wine Walk from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16. Purchase a wine tasting package at the LDA office, 680 S. Main St., where the walk will start.
The $15 package includes four tasking tokens, one wine glass and a Wine & Art Walk passport. Participants must be 21 or older.
Participants will stroll through downtown shops and restaurants enjoying the night with friends and the downtown community. Downtown restaurants will provide hors d’oeuvres at each location.

Foster Dam Road closed Sept. 13-14
The road over Foster Dam will be closed Sept. 13 and 14 for work on the dam.
Closures will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Work will be done on the spillway gate and the fish weir will be removed.

Rollin’ Oldies revs up Sept. 17 car show
Rollin’ Oldies car club will once again host its 30th Car Show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at River Park, 1235 E. Grant St., Lebanon.
After a COVID-19 hiatus, the show returns with a wide range of makes, models and years of cars, pickups and military vehicles.
Admission is free for spectators.A drawing will be held, and food, beverages and vendors will be at the event. Musician Russ Stoh-meyer will perform.

Taste tomatoes in Lebanon
Master Gardener Sheryl Casteen will host Tomato Fest from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, at the Lebanon Senior Center, 80 Tangent St.
The event features not only the beloved fruit, tomatoes to taste, but also several 10-minute talks on hot water canning, pressure canning, slow-cooker harvest recipes, food drying, preserving foods for freezers and answers to general gardening questions. Heirloom tomatoes that are not normally sold in stores or nurseries will also be available at the event.
All 10-minute talks, recipes and reference books will be sent to attendees digitally. An OSU Master Food Preserver will be in attendance, as well, to answer canning and/or preservation questions.
Square dancing returns Sept. 18
Lebanon Square Circlers will resume starting at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, at the Lebanon IOOF Hall, 20 Ash St.
No partner is required to participate. Dancing will continue until 8 p.m.
No previous dance experience is necessary, and families are especially welcome! Those folks now enjoying line and contra dancing are also invited to come check out this brand of American Folk Dancing as well.

New Hope hosts Ted Pearce events
New Hope Church will host a concert by Ted Pearce from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, at 37180 Gore Drive, Lebanon.

Sign up for Citizens Academy
The Linn County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for its upcoming Fall Citizens Academy.
Sessions run from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesdays, Sept. 14 through Nov. 30. A Sunday “field trip” will also be planned to a firearms range and Linn County Animal Control; that date has yet to be determined.
Citizens Academy students will be introduced to each of the Sheriff’s Office divisions and specialty teams. Participants receive classroom instruction and hands-on training in areas such as patrol, detectives, corrections, firearms, defensive tactics, traffic enforcement, narcotics investigations, swift-water rescue and dive recovery, prisoner transport and search-and-rescue. Classes are taught by Sheriff’s Office team members.
Participants must be at least 18 years of age; however, applications will be considered for those as young as 16, provided they take part with a parent or guardian.
