The Huskies softball team named Bayli Riggs its most valuable player during the annual softball awards dessert on May 19.
The most inspirational player was Paige Niemi, and Laura Gourley, who moved up to the second-highest batting average on the team, .415, was named most improved.
Emili Riggs was named offensive player of the year based on stats. She had the highest batting average on the team and second highest in the league at .475.
Based on stats, Shelbey Gillespie was named defensive player of the year.
The Coach’s Award went to Niemi.
“You inspired your players,” Coach Steve Hummer said to her. “You inspired your team. You inspired your entire class.”
She is valedictorian and is the picture of selflessness, Hummer said. “A lot of adults could learn a lot from how you live your life.”
All-league honors included Emli Riggs, named to the first-team infield. Niemi was named first-team utility player.
Second-team honors went to Gourley, outfield; Gillespie, catcher; Tiffanie Cuilla, infield; and Bayli Riggs, pitcher.
Honorable mention was given to Hailee Huenergardt, outfield, and Megan Rubidoux, infield.
Niemi received her third softball letter.
Receiving second-year letters were sophomores Bayli Riggs, Gillespie, Tasha Saunders, Ashley Cochran, Dakota Hesberg and Huenergardt and senior Tiffanie Cuilla.
Receiving first-year letters were Kristen Tolle, Emili Riggs and Megan Rubidoux.
