Bonnie (Hasty/Clark) Foster, a longtime Scio resident and matriarch of the John Clark family, died Dec. 11.
She was born Sept. 20, 1924 in Thomasville, Ala., to Claudy Westley and Wencie Ella (Vick) Hasty.
She married John Clark, son of one of the earliest families in Sweet Home, in Birmingham, Ala., during World War II and they married soon after the war. They moved to Oregon in 1952. They eventually settled in Scio in the fall of 1957.
Following the accidental drowning death of her husband in 1959, she focused on raising her seven children, for whom she was the sole support.
She worked at the Stayton Cannery. With the help and constant support of her sister-in-law, Louise Verley and family, she managed to feed and clothe her seven children.
She is survived by: her children, Tony D. Clark of Salem, Johnny L. Clark of Lebanon, Mary P. Brown of Lebanon, Manuel “Bill” W. Clark of Willow Creek, Alaska, Charlene G. Miller of Albany, Ronald “Ronny” D. Clark of West Scio and Sharon A. Borhard of Scio; brother Charles Wesley Hasty of Thomasville, Ala.; sisters Lois Berneidia Morgan of Thomasville, Ala., Gladys “Polly” Naomi Hill of Thomasville and Margaret Louise Pope of Thomasville; her sister-in-law Louise Clark Verley of Foster; 23 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John Clark, and brothers Cecil Lenard Hasty, William Claudy “W.C.” Hasty and Maxwell D. Hasty.
A memorial service will be held in the late spring, and will be announced in newspapers in Oregon and in Thomasville, Ala.
