Sweet Home’s boys were unable to shake out of a 22-game losing streak in their final home game of the season against North Marion on Thursday, Feb. 16, although they did give the seventh-ranked visitors, also the Huskies, a close game before ultimately losing 62-52.
Sweet Home was up 19-16 at the end of the first quarter and was down just 38-34 at halftime. But North Marion (15-6) continued to pull away in the second half, winning the third quarter by one point and the fourth quarter by five.
“We played really well and competed hard,” said Sweet Home Head Coach Drew Emmert. “They are a top team in state and we battled them all night. I was proud of our guys’ effort and we hit some shots. It was fun to see us put together close to a complete game and take a top team down to the wire.”
Sweet Home (1-22) outshot North Marion from the field 48.7% to 42.6%. But the home Huskies turned the ball over 21 times while only forcing seven.
Junior Nathan Aker led Sweet Home in scoring with 15 points on 5-9 shooting from the field. Junior Ethan Delibertis added 10 on 3-5 shooting, while junior Will Jewell had eight points on 3-7 shooting.
Then on Monday, Feb. 20, in its final game of the season, Sweet Home lost to Stayton (16-7) by a score of 74-37.
