Sweet Home’s golf team took “a step backwards” at the Molalla Invitational Thursday, April 2, at Arrowhead Golf Club.
The Huskies fielded only four players, Horn said.
Jake Riggs was Sweet Home’s low scorer, shooting 43-50-93.
“The golf course played very hard,” Horn said. “They played each of the tees all the way back, at the tips, which was too long for our guys because we are not long hitters.”
Travis Ramoz was second for the Huskies, shooting 43-52-95. Mike Fontenot finished with 103 and Jason Rice with 111 for a team score of 402.
Sisters won the tournament with 342, followed by The Dalles (354).
Horn said the Huskies’ youth is showing in their ups and downs.
“We’re not in the hunt,” Horn said. “We’re struggling.
Sweet Home played Tuesday, April 7, at Salishan, its first league match of the season.
Girls open season
Sweet Home’s girls opened their 2009 season March 31 at Olalla Valley Golf Course, near Toledo.
Coach Kendra McAslin said the Huskies were shorthanded, with only three golfers, and were a little rusty. The match included six other schools, among them Newport and Taft.
Tanna Tyler led the Huskies with a 69 over the nine-hole course, follwed by Julie Bosso, who shot 88 in her first high school match. Emily Peabody finished with 102.
“We got the first one out of the way,” McAslin said.
The Huskies play Thursday, April 9, at Arrowhead in Molalla and will host Sweet Home’s first home match of the season at noon on April 15 at Mallard Creek.
