Elmira scored early on the Huskies in boys soccer on Oct. 18 in Sweet Home on their way to a 6-2 win.
“They had a good player that scored on us,” Coach Ryan Regrutto said. “That was a tough one because that’s a team we’re competitive with. They set up a pretty good offensive attack, and I didn’t do things to counter it.”
Elmira led 3-0 by halftime.
Drayson Scott scored the Huskies’ first goal in the second half, dribbling along the sideline, taking a shot and bouncing it off a defender into the net.
Nene Mauer dribbled into the box and was tripped. Tony Ramirez shot the penalty kick and scored the Huskies’ second goal.
“The boys continue to work hard,” Regrutto said. “Nobody quits per se. The game was too far gone, and we struggled to come back.”
The Huskies lost 4-0 at Junction City on Thursday. Junction City scored two goals in each half.
“They were playing less than their top players to start the game,” Regrutto said. “We came out and really took it to them.”
Sweet Home had two good shots, Regrutto said, and three or four minutes into the game, Junction City started subbing in its starters.
“After that, the kids worked really hard,” Regrutto said. Junction City was able to score in the first half on lapses in the defense, while the second half was more of a game.
“The kids were working hard, very competitive,” Regrutto said. “I wouldn’t say they were completely dominated.”
Possession was probably close to 50-50, he said, and for the Huskies, it was probably one of the best games this year in terms of attitude and commitment.
The Huskies’ last game of the season was scheduled for Tuesday at home against Sisters.
