Sweet Home Ranger District staff members, above, tend a burning meadow next to Moose Creek, east of Cascadia on Wednesday, Sept. 11. The burned area, shown at right in the aerial photograph, is the continuation of the Camas Prairie Restoration Project, in which fire is used every two years as a tool to enhance the production of camas for traditional harvest by tribal members. The practice has continued since the mid-1990s, with low-intensity fire used to reduce competing vegetation.
