Carlton Glenn Kerry Moran, 79, died March 18, 2007.
He was born to Joseph and Coryl Moran in Madison, Wis., Jan. 24, 1928. He graduated from Madison Central High School.
Mr. Moran joined the United States Navy and served four years in World War II as a radioman and tail gunner aboard the USS Essex. He graduated from the University of Oregon with a bachelor of science degree in 1953. Continuing at Willamette University he received his master’s of education degree in 1957. He later returned to the University of Oregon to advance his career in education and administration.
He married Alice Louise Ohling in 1954. Together they lived in Eugene where they both taught school. They then moved to Vernonia, where he coached basketball, was a guidance counselor, and drama coach. They moved to Sweet Home in 1961, where they both continued in education.
Mr. Moran was very involved in the school and community. His jobs at both junior and high school levels included coaching, counseling, teaching psychology, biology, speech, drama, physical education and English, and serving as vice-principal and principal. He was responsible for organizing the Linn County CASA program in 1986. After retiring to Seal Rock he continued his service as director for Lincoln County CASA.
He was involved in many fraternal organizations.
Mr. Moran was a member of the St Francis Episcopal Church in Sweet Home, where he became a eucharistic minister. After retiring to Seal Rock he continued his membership in the church by transferring to St. Luke’s by the Sea Episcopal church in Waldport.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing, water skiing, boating and camping, digging clams in front of his Seal Rock home, reading, crossword puzzles, and watching the Oregon Ducks. He loved music and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved most of all spending time with his wife and soulmate Allie Lou.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Allie Lou; his children, Shannon Moran of Albany, daughter Meegan and son-in-law Monte Forster of Tangent, and son Kevin and daughter-in-law Cindy Moran of Albany; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces, Cathy Wells and Sandy Taylor; and many close and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Elizabeth and great-grandson Jeremy Carl Sawyer.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 31, at St. Luke’s by the Sea, in Waldport at 1353 Highway 101 South.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Luke’s by the Sea Episcopal church, and or Lincoln County CASA.
