April 15, 1912 – Aug. 1, 2006
Charles Johnson, 94, of Albany died Aug. 1, 2006.
He was born in Willowbunch, Saskatchewan, Canada on April 15, 1912. As a youth his family moved to a ranch in northeastern Montana.
Mr. Johnson worked in ranching and spent several years as a U.S. Forest Service packer, he packed supplies by mule string to fire crews and lookouts in the rugged mountain areas of Idaho and Montana until moving to Washington where he did some mining and later moved to the Sweet Home area where he worked in the logging industry and power line construction around the NW. Charles married Jesse Banta and together they enjoyed the outdoors. They raised mules and built wagons on their small ranch outside of Sweet Home. In his later years Charles enjoyed visits with his daughter Pat and other family members. For his 94th birthday, he was treated to an oyster dinner made by his niece Gail to celebrate the event. He enjoyed learning about western American history and working jig-saw puzzles.
He was survived by his daughter, Pat Peterson of Idaho; step-daughter, Joyce Munson of Albany; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Gladys Marshall of Montana.
Charles was preceded in death by wife, Jesse Johnson and son, Charles Lawrence Johnson Jr.
