Members of the city Public Works Maintenance Division, dedicated a bench in memory of Jay Rector who was “a much-respected and loyal Public Works employee for 20-plus years” who died suddenly in May of 2007.
The bench, purchased by members of the American Federation of State, Federal, County and Municipal Employees, was placed on the front lawn at the new Maintenance Facility at 1400 24th Ave. near a tree commemorating the 150th year of Oregon statehood.
The lawn area includes a water feature made from a tank left on the property by previous owners, and a path lined by rocks donated by Cascade Timber Consulting. Scrap metal left by previous owners was traded for timbers to outline the grassy area.
All work was performed in-house with every member of the crew participating at different stages. The final phase of the project
will be to plant a flag pole.
The dedication ceremony took place on Oct. 29 and included Rector’s mother, Doris Rector.
