Crawfordsville School, which will be closed at the end of the school year, will celebrate its history with a final barbecue and potluck Saturday afternoon, June 4.
“We decided we’re not going to go out with a whimper, we’re going to go out with a bang,” said school Secretary Cindi Rinehart, who is helping to organize the event.
Founded in 1853, the school has operated continuously until this year, she said.
Rinehart said organizers are asking people to lend them photos of the school’s past, which will be scanned and returned to the owners. The photos will be made into a Powerpoint slideshow by Kelly Graham, pastor of Crawfordsville Communitiy Church.
Deadline for photo submissions is May 13. Those who contribute photos should attach their name and phone number and any information about the photo that they can provide.
“We’re in the process of trying to contact our alumni and families. It’s going to be huge,” Rinehart said.
The event will include a barbecue, provided by the PTC, and a potluck from 1 to 4 p.m. The school will furnish utensils and water. Participants are welcome to bring their own non-alcoholic drinks.
“We just want this to be as positive thing as possible for the kids,” said Rinehart, who said she has worked at Crawfordsville for 33 years.
