Minus most of its big guns, the Sweet Home swim team opened its season Friday, Dec. 6, with a win over Blanchet and Stayton for the girls and a close second to Blanchet for the boys.
“I thought we had a real good opening meet,” Coach Doug Peargin said. “We had 10 swimmers that swam their first high school meet and all 10 had lifetime best times in at least one event.”
It wasn’t just the rookies.
“Of our returning swimmers, we had nine who turned in lifetime best swims. This was a great way to start the season.
Three Huskies – Esther Gunselman, Elea Hewitt and Jager Howatt – were four-event winners (including relays).
Peargin said his team was a little under the weather and several of the Huskies’ fastest swimmers were at another meet in Corvallis.
“We’ve been a little sick as a team, but with the weekend off, hopefully we’ll be back to good health by next week for the Philomath Relays Meet,” he said.
The Philomath meet will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11.
