Some 200 people turned out Saturday night, April 27, for the annual Little Promises Children’s Programs auction, held at the school.
Little Promises Director Anita Hutchins said the event brought in more than $11,000 profit.
“It is the best ever,” she said. “The need is the highest ever. I think something people don’t realize is that a nonprofit, to make ends meet, has to do fund-raisers. The market on raising kids is maxed. We have to suplement a little bit.”
The evening’s activities included a prime rib dinner provided by The Point and a slide show tribute to Hutchins, who plans to retire as director this summer.
Some of the bigger sales were a California getaway of tickets to Disneyland and California Adventure, LegoLand and Wheel of Fortune that went for $500; A McKenzie River cabin getaway for $450; a truckload of firewood and of maple, for $400 each; and four nights at Otter Crest for $375.
“It was a fun night,” she said. “It was probably funner for me than most. I was very touched by the tribute that the staff put together of my 31 years at Little Promises. “It brought back a flood of memories.”
The event drew about 200 people, plus volunteers including staffers and teens from local church youth groups.
staff itself took different areas to be responsible for. That was awesome too.
