On Aug. 18, Dr. Tim Hindmarsh will take Act Alive back to the basics.
That’s no small thing for this event. For Act Alive, the basics include 10 extreme sports activities, ranging from skiing and snowboarding on Mt. Hood to barefoot waterskiing, to dirt-biking, to running three miles.
Hindmarsh, a Samaritan physician at Sweet Home Family Medicine, will push himself to the limit to raise awareness of the type 2 diabetes epidemic raging across America, including here in east Linn County. He has a strong passion to stop type 2 diabetes, in part because he regularly sees patients with the disease.
More than 24 million Americans suffer from type 2 diabetes, but the disease is treatable €“ and in some cases, curable €“ with diet, exercise and education. Hindmarsh pushes himself through Act Alive to encourage people to take charge of their own health.
In its first four years, Act Alive raised $25,000. The Lebanon Community Hospital Foundation uses the money for diabetes services for low-income patients at Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital.
The hospital and foundation are welcoming any contributions for diabetes services through Act Alive. So far, the effort has received a generous $500 contribution from the Lebanon Lions Club.
