The Huskies lost 75-61 to Elmira at home Friday night in boys varsity basketball.
Elmira built a 25-18 lead by the end of the first quarter. In the second, the Huskies closed the gap, with Kyle Winslow scoring a tying bucket on a fast break with a minute left in the first half. Tied 42-42, both teams tried to connect and missed a shot each. Elmira scored a bucket at the end of the half to take a 44-42 lead.
Elmira expanded its lead gradually over the second half, leading 60-51 at the end of the third.
“The third and fourth quarters, we had a hard time getting a hold of the shots,” said Coach Kostanty Knurowski. “We only made five shots in the second half.”
In the first half, the Huskies sank 19 field goals and no free throws, while they scored nine at the foul line in the second half.
After giving up 44 in the first half, the Huskies defense slowed Elmira down, he said, but at the same time, the Huskies had difficulty scoring.
Two Huskies stood out that night, he said. Jeremy White led the team offensively, scoring 20 points.
“Kyle Winslow had a very good game also,” Knurowski said. He didn’t have the figures available, but he was definitely in two digits on the boards.
