Sweet Home PEO, Chapter DD has announced the winners of its annual Oregon and Margarite scholarships.
Sweet Home area residents Samantha Ashlock, Emily Coleman, Kristen Peterson and Madeline Tyler have each received between $1,000 and $1,700 to be used to complete their chosen degrees.
PEO, which stands for “Philanthropic Educational Organization,” aims to celebrate the advancement of women; educate women through scholarships, grants, awards, loans, and stewardship of Cottey College, which it owns and supports, and motivate women to achieve their highest aspirations.
“PEO’s purpose is to promote educational opportunities for deserving women of all ages, as well as foster long standing and life-long supportive relationships between women, and to enhance the lives of those within our community,” said Cynde Burford, education chairperson.
The scholarships are funded through the club’s annual sales of local berries. It is taking orders for flash-frozen strawberries, blueberries and marionberries for pick-up in August.
“Our customers come back year after year because they know the quality of the product, the economical price and that the funds go to such a good cause,” Burford said. “This summer we would love to double our orders and be able to help even more deserving girls achieve their education goals.”
Order forms are available by contacting Burford by email at [email protected].
