January 5, 1967

Frank Kikel, a resident of Sweet Home for 15 years, was elected as mayor of the city of Sweet Home by the six other elected city councilmen at an organizational meeting Tuesday night.

Kikel will serve for a period of two years. Kikel has been a member of the City Council for a little more than four years, longer than any of the other six members.

December 31, 1991

Guy Jonathan Graves was honored Dec. 15 at his Court of Honor, when he received the rank of Eagle Scout.

Jack E. Gourley, committee chairman, conducted the program. Dale Funk, scoutmaster of Troop 395, spoke briefly of Jon’s trail to Eagle.

Jon was born on Dec. 17, 1978 in Enterprise. Although Foster has always been his home, when he was small he traveled from Foster around the Pacific Northwest because of his father’s trade.

The Huskies’ twice-a-day swimming workouts during the Christmas break took on new meaning for many of the Sweet Home High athletes as they were able to workout side-by-side with two of the school’s all-time swimming greats.

Leah Land, a junior at South Carolina, and Bruce Davis, a senior, at Kansas, were home for the Christmas holidays.

Thanks to the generosity of many persons, a record number of Christmas Baskets were delivered to needy families by the Sweet Home Volunteer Fire Department.

Fire Marshal Keith Gabriel said 385 baskets were presented this year, up from 364 last year.
