Gay Dean Miller, 72, of Sweet Home died Nov. 23, 2010.
She was born in Blythville, Ark. to William Clay and Martha Elizabeth (Brown) La Shot.
Her family came west when she was 2 years old and settled in Creswell. They then moved to Walterville, where her dad built a home for the family.
She lived there until her marriage on March 23, 1956 at Thurston Christian Church. After their wedding, she and her husband James Miller lived in Springfield, Pleasant Hill, Coburg, La Pine and, finally, moving to Sweet Home in 2004.
She attended churches in the areas that they lived including Thurston Christian Church, High Lakes Christian Church, La Pine and then the First Baptist Church in Sweet Home.
Mrs. Miller spent her life raising her children and grandchildren. They were her pride and joy.
She also loved sewing, crocheting and cooking. She won many ribbons in 4-H for her cooking and sewing. Everyone in the family loved her homemade rolls and bread. She was always cooking for everyone. She enjoyed word searches, puzzles, Yahtzee and pinochle. She played many hours of pinochle with family and friends.
Mrs. Miller is survived by her husband, James Donald Miller of Sweet Home; son James and daughter-in-law Deliene Miller of Monroe, son Michael and daughter-in-law Tanya Miller of Springfield, daughter Lori and son-in-law Brian McFarlane of LaPine, son Toby and daughter-in-law Sumei Miller of Newport, daughter Jennifer and son-in-law Scott Blue of Marietta, Ga., and son Zachary Miller of Sweet Home; siblings Jerry LaShot of Creswell, June Yow of La Pine, Dub LaShot of Walterville, Lynn Denton of Lake Oswego, and Jack LaShot of Kenai, Alaska; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Martha La Shot.
A memorial service is planned at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 3, at Sweet Home First Baptist Church.
