Ginette Paulette Smock, 84, of Sweet Home died Dec. 5, 2010 at Joella’s Manor House in Lebanon.
She was born May 21, 1926 in Bar-sur-Aube, France, the daughter of Georges and Germaine (Mongin) Froechly. She lived in France throughout her childhood and early adult life.
She came to the United States and arrived in New York aboard the ship Admiral R.E. Coontz on Feb. 13, 1947. She lived in San Francisco for several years until moving to Oregon.
She has resided in Sweet Home since the early 1950s, though she returned to France from 1972 to 1981, when she returned to Sweet Home. She became a naturalized U.S. citizen in Benton County on Feb. 28, 1958.
She married Leo Peter Santich in France on June 4, 1946. They later divorced. She married Carl Marcene Smock in Virginia City, Nev., on Nov. 7, 1951. They remarried in Stevens, Wash. on Aug. 29, 1953.
Mrs. Smock was an active member of the Elks Lodge in Sweet Home and was honored as Elkette of the Year several times. She enjoyed playing cards (especially pinochle), hunting, fishing, her dogs, a good bottle of wine and she loved cooking.
She is survived by two grandsons; eight step-grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandcildren; sisters Claudette Godest and Michele Jeanmougin, both of France; daughters-in law, Angelina Dalton and Nancy Smock; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Carl on Sept. 7, 1981. She was also preceded in death by her son, Philippe Santich; and stepchildren Carlita Wolfe, Thomas Smock and Terry Smock.
At her request no services are being planned.
