Sweet Home’s girls basketball team came back from a four-point halftime deficit to defeat Estacada 36-33 on the road Tuesday, Dec. 17.
“It was the first time we’ve been behind at halftime and came back to get the win,” said Head Coach Erika Evans. The victory marked a 20-point swing from last season’s 15-point loss to Estacada.
“We are seeing huge improvement this season,” Evans said. “We handle pressure much more gracefully, are taking two or three times as many shots, we have better shot selection overall, are forcing more turnovers, and committing far less of them.”
The Huskies faced a tough challenge against Molalla, falling 48-33 to the seventh-ranked Indians at home on Thursday, Dec. 19.
Evans is optimistic about the team’s progress.
“We will continue to surprise teams – and ourselves – with how much we’ve improved,” she said.
The Huskies will compete in a tournament at Gladstone High School during the break, on Jan. 3, where Evans plans to focus on player development.
“The break gives us a chance to work on fundamentals like free throws, which helped us last season,” she said. They’re improving with each game, proving that they’re ready to compete – and surprise – against anyone in their path.”
