At a cheer skills camp, Sweet Home club cheer and high school cheer team members play a game where they run around in circles and then must find their partners and complete various tasks, such as “lover’s leap,” with one jumping into the arms of the other. The two-day skills camp was held Thursday and Friday for 55 children on three club teams for pre-kindergarten through sixth grade. At left, Journey Unruh watches the competition as she plays the game. Coach Amber Rosa organized the camp, and her high school team ran the events. They continued Monday and Tuesday with a camp for the junior cheer team, with 17 participants from sixth through the eighth grade. The camps serve as fund-raisers for the high school team and pay for choreography, music and state competition expenses. The program also hosts a skills camp for high school cheerleaders.
