Aug. 22, 1914 – April 19, 2008
Glenn A. Yoder, 93, of Sweet Home died April 19, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis.
Mr. Yoder was born Aug. 22, 1914 in Hubbard, the son of Silas and Loma (Hartzler) Yoder. He lived in Hubbard throughout his childhood and early adult life.
As a young man, he worked on the family farm and in sawmills until starting Glenn Yoder Excavating in 1948. His work brought him to Sweet Home around 1950 where he has resided since.
He married Ethel Emmert on Dec. 31, 1952 in Sweet Home.
He worked as the owner operator of his excavation company until 1991 when he turned the daily operation over to his son. In addition to his excavating work, he had worked as a gravedigger for the Sweet Home Cemetery District since 1966. He dug graves for the cemeteries up till the time of his death.
Mr. Yoder enjoyed hunting, fishing, cutting wood, gardening and working with his fruit trees. He also enjoyed singing in quartet and in the Valley Men’s Chorus. Spending time with his family was a very important part of his life. He was a longtime member of Sweet Home Mennonite Church where he served as head usher for over 30 years.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel of Sweet Home; daughter, Jeannine Overturf of Sweet Home; son, Dean Yoder of Sweet Home; sisters, Lora Marshall of Albany, Dorothy King of Lebanon and Violet Hopkins of Lebanon; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mabel Yoder.
Funeral services were held April 21 at the Sweet Home Mennonite Church, with burial following at Gilliland Cemetery.
