Sweet Home’s golfers finished third in a tournament at Junction City’s Diamond Woods Thursday, April 11, that involved three other Sky-Em teams.
Casey Horner led the Huskies with a 91 as Sweet Home scored 396 to finish behind Oakridge (378) and Cottage Grove (380). Bandon was fourth (399), with Junction City (419) and La Pine (428) rounding out the field.
Stephen Bishop was second for the Huskies with a 98, followed by Christian Porter (103), Austin Yoder (104) and Chris Melcher (108) in his first varsity outing. Anderson noted that Bryce Daniels scored a 103 while playing with the JV.
“Bryce is showing strong improvement and should factor into our varsity competition soon.”
Anderson described conditions as “very wet, causing team and individual scores to be high,” Anderson said. “Overall it was a very good experience for our young team.”
On April 8 the Huskies played Pacific Trails at Bandon Dunes. Bishop was the only Sweet Home player to finish below 100, shooting a 92. Porter finished with 105, Horner 106, Michael Tolles 111 and Brenner Roberts 117.
“The Bandon Dunes experience was an opportunity for our team to play a world-class course,” Anderson said. “Our scores were good, considering the difficulty of the course and challenging coastal playing conditions.”
Final team scores were unavailable for that tournament, as Sweet Home left as soon as the team had finished playing, due to the lateness of the hour, Anderson said.
The Huskies are playing April 16 at Cottage Grove and will be at home Wednesday, April 24, at Mallard Creek, starting at noon.
