High school students collect more than $1.6 million in scholarships

Sweet Home High School graduates in the Class of 2014 were awarded a total of $1,670,148 in scholarships and financial aid this year. That included $560,085 in scholarship funds, $650,000 in military educational funds that will go to enlistees, and 38 $2,500 GEAR UP scholarships totaling $95,000. The total figure also includes 48 ACT students who are moving on to Linn-Benton Community College under an arrangement with Sweet Home High School that allows them to study at LBCC for free, a $5,100 value.

Collegiate Athletic Scholarships — Emily Marchbanks (Clackamas Community College) $3,600/year athletic tuition scholarship for two years for total of $7,200; Katie Virtue (Oregon Institute of Technology) $4,274.50/year athletic tuition scholarship for four years for total of $17,098.

Military enlistments: Each of the following students has been admitted to one of the United States branches of military. Upon completing their required tour of duty, each enlistee is eligible for the Post 9/11 GI Bill that includes approximately $100,000 to complete a degree at the college of their choice plus each branch offers an undetermined amount of money to help with annual living expenses while the student is attending school.
