Elmira lost its first softball game of the year today (April 19) when Sweet Home defeated the Falcons 5-4.
The Huskies’ only losses in league so far have been to Elmira, 8-2 and 3-2.
The Huskies scored the first run in the top of the second inning. Elmira scored in the fourth and went ahead 2-1 in the fifth when Kylee Anderson doubled to score Alyssa Nelson.
With two outs, the Huskies tied the score 2-2 in the top of the seventh. After a fly out for Marissa Kurtz, Sydney Mauer walked. Britney Zook struck out, and then Sarita Zanona singled on a line drive to centerfield to advance Mauer to second.
Madi Barringer singled on another line drive to centerfield to score Mauer and move Zanona to second. Ally Tow followed up with a three-run homerun, giving the Huskies a 5-2 lead.
Elmira scored two runs in the bottom of the inning but couldn’t quite make as pitcher Brianna Hoffman struck out the final Falcon batter.
The Huskies collected six hits on the game. Zanona led at the plate with two hits and a run. Barringer had one hit, a run and an RBI. Tow had one hit, with a run and three RBIs. Hoffman had a hit, with Kylie Armstrong scoring a run as a courtesy runner, and Mauer hit a double and had and a run.
Katie Mobley led Elmira hitting, going 2-4 with a run.
In the circle, Hoffman gave up seven hits, one walk and four runs, three of them earned. She struck out four Falcons.
For Elmira, Miranda Jensen gave up six hits, a walk and five earned runs, striking out seven Huskies.
The Huskies host Sisters on Friday and visit Sisters next Tuesday.
