The Sweet Home volleyball team (3-12) faced tough competition last week, dropping consecutive matches to Cascade and Philomath in straight sets.
Sweet Home lost 0-3 to Cascade on Tuesday, Oct. 8. Despite the loss, Aaliyah Brown stood out, going 4-for-4 at the serving line and having an impressive day defensively.
“She also had a great day blocking, during that game she put up a good block quite a few times,” Sweet Home head coach Katie Dargis said.
Kaitlyn Kennedy added consistency, serving 11-for-12, while Natalie Smith went 6-for-6. Sophia Stock also contributed, going 10-for-11 with one ace, and Trinity Victor served a perfect 5-for-5. Kiera Johnson led the team in kills with seven, followed by Kennedy and Brown, who each had two.
However, Dargis noted that the team’s overall serve receive was a key struggle in the match.
Two days later, Sweet Home was again defeated 0-3, this time by Philomath on Thursday, Oct. 10. The Huskies showed improvement as the match progressed, but it wasn’t enough to secure a win.
“We kind of struggled to get things going for us in that game,” Dargis said. “We picked it up each set a bit better, but unfortunately we weren’t able to swing aggressively to put a dent in their offense and defense.”
Karissa Jewell had a perfect 5-for-5 serving performance, while Tiara Reynolds tallied four kills. Kennedy led the team in kills with five, while Brown and Johnson each contributed three.
The Huskies will look to bounce back as they continue their league play. Their next appearance will be at North Marion (1-9) on Oct. 17.
