The Sweet Home Huskies faced a tough matchup Friday night against the Marist Catholic Spartans, falling 49-7 in a league game at Marist High School, Oct. 11.
The Spartans, ranked among the top five teams in the state, improved to 2-0 in league play and 5-1 overall with the victory. Sweet Home dropped to 0-2 in league play and a 3-3 overall.
Despite the lopsided score, Sweet Homes’ Coach Ryan Adams noted positive takeaways from the game.
“We went into Friday night with some goals for ourselves as a team, and I think the kids accomplished those,” he said. “Marist is a great football team, top 5 in the state for sure, so we knew it was going to be a tough matchup. But we got better at some things we needed to in order to be successful down the road. Just really proud of how they continued to compete and work hard.”
The Huskies tried to close the gap against a strong Marist defense, but the Spartans controlled the game early, building an insurmountable lead and showcasing their offensive power.
Sweet Home will look to bounce back in its next game as the team continues to navigate league play. Their next game will be at home versus Junction City (1-5), Oct. 18.
