Central 7, Sweet Home 6
Central exploited one rough inning to defeat the Huskies on the baseball diamond 7-6 on April 3 at Central.
Central scored a run in the second inning, but the Huskies took a 2-1 lead at the top of three. Their problems came at the bottom, when Central scored five runs.
“We lost a tough one tonight,” Coach Dan Tow said. “Gavin Kauffman pitched very well, and Brad Valloni had a big night at the plate.
“Unfortunately, we had one poor inning that really hurt us. To the kids’ credit, they fought back and tied it at 6-6 in the top of the seventh, but Central scored one in the bottom of the seventh to get the victory.
“Defensively, we had a very poor inning in the third, and that was ultimately what cost us the game.
“We showed some character but lost a tough one.”
Kauffman started for the Huskies and collected the loss. Winning pitcher was Hesberg. McArdle was starting pitcher for Central.
At bat, Valloni went 3-4 with a three-run homerun at the top of the fifth and four RBI on the day. Steven Bidwell went 2-4. Leif Erickson and Tyler Holly each had singles.
