The Sweet Home Huskies (3-0) continued their win record this season with a 27-7 win over the Milwaukie Mustangs (1-3) on Sept. 20. The Huskies delivered a well-rounded performance, excelling in offense, defense, and special teams.
“The kids played really well for four straight quarters,” coach Ryan Adams said. “All week we preached discipline and ownership, and they took that to heart.”
The Huskies opened the game with a scoring drive, setting the tone with their ground attack. Sweet Home ran the ball on 80% of their plays, averaging 4 yards per carry. The rushing offense allowed the Huskies to control the pace and move the ball consistently.
“Our offense started out hot, scoring on our opening drive,” Adams said.
The defense faced an early challenge, giving up a touchdown within the first few plays of the game. However, the unit regrouped and did not allow another score for the rest of the game.
“Our defense got hit right away, giving up a score in the first four or five plays, but they responded better than I could have imagined,” Adams said. “They didn’t give up a score again.”
Special teams contributed with a key play in the second half. The Huskies forced a fumble on a kickoff, giving the offense favorable field position and helping them extend their lead.
“Our special teams also put us in a scoring position, forcing a fumble on a kickoff,” Adams said. “All three phases of the game were executed extremely well by our kids, and that’s always a lot of fun to watch and be a part of.”
The Huskies will look to maintain their momentum as the season continues, with their last non-league game at home versus North Bend (1-2) on Sept. 27.
