A 33-year-old Independence man died Sunday, July 21, after suffering a diabetic problem while in a boat on Foster Lake, according to the Linn County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s Sgt. Dave Opel said Jeremy Marshall, 33, was with family members in a boat on the lake Sunday afternoon. He said Marshall was an insulin-dependent diabetic who suffered from high blood pressure and kidney disease, for which he received dialysis treatments and “numerous medications.”
“He said he wasn’t feeling well,” Opel said. “He had lunch and then went swimming from the boat.” After spending some time in the water, Marshall climbed back into the boat and signaled to family members that he was experiencing a diabetic attack.
Family members took him to Caulkins Boat Ramp where medics arrived and found him in cardiac arrest, Opel said. Medics applied CPR and transported Marshall to Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, he said.
Opel said preliminary indications were that no alcohol was involved.
