Jack C. Adams

Jack C. Adams, 88, died at his home in Sweet Home on July 18, 2006.

He was born Dec. 16, 1917, on a farm near Hammon, Okla., the son of Richard L. Adams and Nell C. Andrews. His family moved to California in 1922.

Mr. Adams joined the Army in 1941 and served 11 months in the field artillery before transferring to the Army Air Corps. He trained as a glider pilot and later became a waist and tail gunner on B17s. He was a staff sergeant in the Army Air Corps and was awarded an Air Medal for Exceptionally Meritorious Service and five Oak Leaf clusters for flying on 35 missions over enemy-held territory. He was very proud of his 4 1/2 years of service to his country.

After leaving the military, Mr. Adams was a ranch foreman for several years in Kern Co., Calif. He graduated from Fresno State College with a bachelor’s degree in education and enjoyed teaching elementary and middle grades for 26 years. He retired in 1982 and moved to Sweet Home in 1992.

He is survived by his wife, Lola; son, Jack W.; daughter Edie Raymond; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Burial was at Gilliland Cemetery on July 24. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Evergreen Hospice, c/o Workman & Steckley Funeral Chapel, 1443 Long St., Sweet Home, OR 97386.
