Jeanine Shanks

Aug. 4, 1945 – Sept. 11, 2006

Jeanine L. Shanks, 61, of Lebanon, died Sept. 11, 2006 at the Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis from complications following surgery for cancer treatment.

She was born Aug. 4, 1945 in Sweet Home and was adopted soon after birth by Dr. Robert S. and Hester (Beard) Langmack. She grew up in Sweet Home, where she attended elementary school and graduated from Sweet Home Union High in 1963. She then attended Oregon State University until her education was interrupted by her marriage to Ronald E. Shanks on July 10, 1965 in Sweet Home.

The couple lived in Albany for a short time prior to moving to San Francisco, Calif. while Mr. Shanks attended mortuary college. Upon their return the couple again lived in Albany until moving to Lebanon in May 1968. Mrs. Shanks then continued her studies at Oregon State University and graduated with a degree in elementary education.

She worked many years in the office of Dr. Robert Dougherty. After Dr. Dougherty’s retirement she was encouraged by her husband to work in the office of Huston Funeral Home (now known as Huston-Jost Funeral Home).

In 1986 she became a licensed funeral director with the firm and has functioned in that capacity as well as office manager and business partner until her death.

She was involved in numerous activities over the years, including a longtime membership in and serving as past president of the Lebanon Community Hospital Auxiliary.

For several years she had been heavily involved with the operation of the hospital gift shop. In recent years she limited her involvements to the Lebanon Dames Investment Club and to an unnamed lottery ticket scratch group.

Mrs. Shanks is survived by her husband, Ron; sons, Ron Shanks, Jr. and wife Taj of Lebanon, and Trent Shanks and wife Barbara of Lebanon; a brother, Bob Langmack of Kooskia, Idaho; sisters, Trilby Rumbaugh of Avila Beach, Calif. and Charmaine Kuhn of Selah, Wash .; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Diane Rivers.

Funeral services were held Sept. 16 at the Lebanon First Assembly of God Church, with burial at the Lebanon IOOF Cemetery. To leave an online condolence for the family go to http://www.hustonjost.com
