Corban’s women’s cross country team, led by Sweet Home’s Olivia Johnson, placed five runners in the Top 10 individually, as the Warriors finished second at the annual Corban Invitational Saturday behind fellow Cascade Collegiate Conference member Northwest.
Johnson, a freshman, led the Warriors with a fourth-place finish in a time of 19:43.22, which was just over 36 seconds behind individual winner Lindsey Wagner of Northwest over the 5K course.
Just under 41 seconds later, senior Courtney Welling (Springfield) crossed the finish line with a time of 20:24.20 to take fifth place with sophomore Mesha Perkins (Sherwood) turning in a time of 21:10.72 to finish sixth overall.
Junior Racheal Estabrook (Bonanza) and freshman McKenzie Poe (Clovis, Calif.) rounded out the Warriors’ scoring quintet with individual finishes of ninth and 10th, respectively. Estabrook, who was running her first race as a member of Corban’s team, turned in a time of 21:27.87, while Poe concluded her first collegiate race with a time of 21:35.28.
Northwest captured the team title thanks to a combined 19 team points, as five Eagles finished in the top seven individually, led by Wagner’s course-record winning time of 19:07.20.
Corban, which tallied 37 combined team points outlasted Crown College by 43 points with the Saints’ top runner, Erin Kossan, finishing 14th overall.
Corban will return to action next Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Lewis & Clark Invitational beginning at 10 a.m. at McIver Park in Portland.
