Judith Moore

Judith A. Moore, 62, of Redmond. Wash., died May 26, 2009 from injuries she sustained in a bicycle accident.

She was born Aug. 23, 1946 to Betty and Robert H. Moore in Portland.

She was a 1964 graduate of Sweet Home High School, where she was editor of the student newspaper.

Ms. Moore, who had a master’s degree in counseling psychology from Willamette University, served as executive director of Boyer Children’s Clinic for 30 years. In 1979 she became the founding director of the Early Childhood Development Association of Washington and in 1989, she successfully championed for the passage of ground-breaking legislation that ensured insurance coverage for neurodevelopmental therapies, thus guaranteeing access to services for thousands of Washington residents.

The current Boyer facility was opened in 1992 as a result of a successful capital campaign led by Ms. Moore. In 2001 she received the coveted Duncan Award, given by Seattle Children’s Hospital “in recognition of exceptional service to children with disabilities, their families, and the community.”

She twice served as chair of the Infant Toddler Early Intervention Project State Interagency Coordinating Council.

Ms. Moore is survived by her mother; her partner, Randall Sherwood and his family; brothers William P. Moore, Robert H. Moore, Jr., and Hugh C. Moore; and nephews and nieces Michael Escola, Douglas Escola, Mark Moore, Jessica Moore and Sarah Moore.

A private celebration of Ms. Moore’s will be held at Meydenbauer Bay Yacht Club for family and close friends. A public Celebration of Life of Judith A. Moore will be held at Kane Hall on the University of Washington Campus at 3 p.m. Friday, June 19.
