Karl F. Giegl, 85, of Sweet Home died Feb. 26, 2011.
He was born in Liesing, Vienna, Austria, the oldest of four and the second last surviving child of Katharina (Polleros) and Karl Giegl.
Besides working as a tool and die maker in Austria, Germany, Canada and California, he worked for White’s Electronics in Sweet Home for 17 years and loved inventing and working on the Tesla Rotary Steam Engine in his spare time.
He was a collector of many things and a jack-of-all trades. He was a volunteer teacher at Sweet Home High School and took great pride in a letter of appreciation received from President Bush. He was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church and served as a deacon for many years.
Mr. Giegl is survived by his brother, Friederich Giegl of Breitenfurt, Austria, near Vienna; daughters Annelie Hugli and Christine Valentini, both of Ontario, Canada, Kymberly Giegl of Sweet Home and their families; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, June Giegl; younger brother Franz Giegl of Vienna, Austria; and sister Emilie Schoenleitner of Salzburg, Austria.
A memorial will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 6, at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Sweet Home off Highway 228.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, the Cancer Society or a charity of donor’s choice.
