July 23, 1920 – Feb. 9, 2011
Kenneth G. Evans, 90, of Sweet Home died Feb. 9, 2011.
He was born in Pekin, Ill., to Frank and Alma (Jost) Evans on July 23, 1920.
Mr. Evans was fascinated by airplanes at an early age. He pedaled newspapers to pay for flying lessons and was flying before he could drive a car.
During World War II he was stationed in Chickasha, Okla., serving as a captain in the United States Army Air Force. He was one of the first flight instructors teaching cadets to fly and perform acrobatic maneuvers. He also flew the first air transport cargo plane to the West Coast. Later, during the war, he taught cadets instrument flying.
After World War II, Ken settled on the west coast; and throughout his entire life, his passion and often his occupation was with aviation.
Like his father and grandfather, he became a lifetime member of AF and AM Masonic Empire Lodge #126, Pekin, Ill.
Mr. Evans is survived by his wife Betty of Sweet Home, and daughter, Terri Evans Krauska of Redding, Calif.
No services are planned.
Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.
