Sweet Home’s boys ended an eight-game losing streak last week with a 49-48 victory on the road at Siuslaw Tuesday, Jan. 14.
A basket from Brayden McClure put the Huskies up by one with six seconds left and they got a stop to ice the win, Coach Drew Emmert said.
“Siuslaw was a good win for us. We played well as a team and we had a lot of people contribute.”
On Friday, Jan. 17, Sweet Home hosted 5A Division Bend – and had our worst shooting night of the year,” Emmert said.
The teams were tied 8-8 after the first quarter, but the Lava Bears picked it up, scoring 19 points in the second period to lead 27-17 at halftime.
“We shot 1-16 from three-point range and less than 30 percent field goal percentage,” Emmert said. “We also didn’t defend at a very high level and got dominated on the rebounds.”
Bend led 45-28 going into the fourth quarter, but continued to dominate the scoring in the final period.
Conner Pace led Sweet Home with 11 points and Kellen Hartsook added eight to lead the Huskies, who were five for 12 from the free throw line.
“It was just a bad game and we will need to bounce back from it as we open up league,” Emmert said.
Sweet Home (3-10 as of Monday) opens its Oregon West Conference season this week with a home game against Philomath (6-7 going into this week) on Tuesday, Jan. 21, followed by a road trip to No. 5-ranked Stayton (9-4 on Monday) on Friday, Jan. 24. They then play at No. 7-ranked North Marion on Tuesday, Jan. 29.
