LCH Foundation announces scholarship winnners

The Lebanon Community Hospital Foundation has awarded scholarships to seven students from Linn County studying in medical-related fields for the 2017-18 academic year.

The Girod Committee awarded four scholarships this year to students from east Linn County who are pursuing careers in medicine, totaling $14,000.

Winners are Amanda Emmert, at COMP-Northwest; Jonathan Shader, at COMP-Northwest; Laurene Reed, at COMP-Northwest; and Tysen Weber, Texas Tech Health Sciences Center.

The late Frank Girod, MD, was one of the founding members of Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital. His family awards this scholarship every year in his honor. The total dollar amount of Girod Medical Scholarships awarded since 1998 is $230,500.

The 1,000 Rachel Easton, RN Scholarship has been awarded to Jordan Lewis of Scio, a nursing student at Linn-Benton Community College.

The scholarship is awarded each year, to an east Linn County-area student enrolled in a nursing program, by the family of the late Rachel Easton, a longtime nurse at Samaritan’s Park Street Clinic.

Two $1,000 John and Carol Dinges Medical Scholarships have been awarded: one to Betsy Carlson of Lebanon, who will enter the certified nursing program this fall at LBCC; and the second to Zach Powell of Crabtree, who will enter the LBCC diagnostic imaging program this summer.

The Dinges Medical Scholarship are awarded each year to a graduate of a high school in east Linn County who is currently enrolled in an entry-level health career program at LBCC.
