LCH Foundation, auxiliary offer scholarships

The Lebanon Community Hospital Foundation is accepting applications for the Rachel Easton, R.N. Nursing Scholarship and the Frank Girod M.D. Scholarship for medical students in east Linn County.

College students from east Linn County, who are accepted into a nursing program, are eligible for the Easton scholarship. East Linn County residents enrolled in medical school are eligible for the scholarship, named for the late Frank Girod, M.D., a primary care physician who was instrumental in the establishment of Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital.

Deadline to apply for both scholarships is April 30. Winners will be announced by June 1.

The $1,000 Easton scholarship is named for Rachel Easton, who was a longtime nurse at the Samaritan Park Street Clinic in Lebanon.

All applicants must submit an official transcript including Fall 2009 grades, a one- or two-page typed statement discussing why you are pursuing a nursing degree and listing your goals; a completed application form and a Cost and Resource Estimate Work Sheet; any special circumstances you might like the Easton Scholarship Committee to consider; and a signed and dated letter of recommendation from someone who knows you well.

Girod Scholarship amounts have ranged from $1,500 to $8,000 per year. Previous recipients of the scholarship are now working across the country, from Hawaii to New York.

Applicants must submit an application, available from the foundation office at the hospital, as well as a written statement about their goals and any community service involvement.

For more information on either scholarship, or to obtain an application, call the foundation at (541) 451-6303.
