Letter: Remembering the miracle of 9/11 (Sept. 7, 2022)

Editor:

Nine-Eleven (Sept. 11) was a time of discovery, disaster and a miracle.

How much do I recall from past events? Not as much as I should. I love how history is like a vine that intertwines event upon event.

Nine-Eleven was an important date when, in 1609, discoverer Sir Henry Hudson entered into what is now known as New York Bay.

On 9-11, 392 years later, New York City was hit by a disaster that was a direct hit at the heart of America’s financial pulse: the Twin Towers. The miracle was set to come.

The miracle of 9-11 reflects the wisdom and actions of our first president, George Washington, along with the House of Representatives and the Senate, as he led them on a walk to the center of New York City following his inauguration. The president guided them to a stone-built church known as St. Paul’s Chapel. It was in this chapel in 1789 that this newly formed government was dedicated to God.

Right across the street from the rubble of the Twin Towers still stands what the news declared as “the miracle of the Twin Towers”: St. Paul’s Chapel, without a scratch.

Recall how, in our Pledge of Allegiance, we recite the words, “under God” and on all our currency we proclaim “In God We Trust.”

Those who remember the news broadcaster Paul Harvey will recall how he would close with “and now you know the rest of the story.”

The rest of the story can be found in the Bible, in the book of Isaiah, chapter 9, verses 10 through 21, where it states three times: His anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.”
