Devon Carl Salladay, 29, was sentenced in Linn County Circuit Court to 36 months of probation on Dec. 2.
The Crawfordsville man pleaded guilty to felon in possession of a firearm, a class C felony. He was arrested on Oct. 3 following an investigation of explosives found in a dumpster at the Sweet Home Sanitation transfer station.
Salladay also must serve five days compensatory service and pay $202 in fines, forfeit weapons and fees.
Employees spotted several suspicious items and contacted police. The Oregon State Police Bomb Squad from Salem responded.
Investigators determined the items were explosives and rendered them safe, said Sheriff Tim Mueller. Police executed a search warrant at 40429 Crawfordsville Drive.
No explosive devices were found, although materials that may have been used in making a device were discovered, Mueller said. Salladay was charged with felon in possession of a firearm.
Salladay was convicted of possession of methamphetamines and contempt of court in Linn County Circuit Court in 1998.

Mitchell Aaron Keller, 18, of Sweet Home pleaded guilty to two counts of negotiating a bad check and was sentenced in Linn County Court on Jan. 6.
Keller was sentenced to 12 months probation and five days compensatory service. He must pay $519 in fines and fees and $854.90 in restitution. Victims listed in the case included Safeway, All-Star Auto, Steelhead and Keith Goodridge Construction of Lebanon.
Three counts of negotiating a bad check, a class A misdemeanor, were dismissed.
Sweet Home Police arrested Keller in November.

Billy Wayne Floyd, 28, of Las Vegas has appealed a conviction of criminally negligent homicide in connection to a crash that killed a Bend woman in July.
He was found not guilty on a charge of third-degree assault.
Floyd was convicted on Dec. 3 and sentenced to 22 months in prison with 36 months of post-prison supervision. He also must pay $607 in fines and fees, and his license was suspended for eight years.
Floyd was driving a semi truck carrying a carnival ride reportedly bound for Benton County Fair. The westbound truck failed to negotiate a curve on Highway 20 and crossed the centerline, striking a pickup head-on near milepost 54, about two miles east of the Mountain House.
Ethel Ann Hopkins, 63, died at the scene.
The crash erupted into flames and started a forest fire in the area that burned approximately an acre and a half.
