Multiple Huskies were recognized at the swim team’s awards banquet at Community Chapel on Wednesday.
Micah Wright on the boys side, and Chloe Tyler and Malia Hewitt for the girls were named Outstanding Swimmers for the team. All are juniors.
Wright was part of the boys 400 Freestyle Relay that placed sixth in the state. He also finished 11th in the state in the 200 Freestyle and ninth in the 500 Freestyle.
Tyler was the state champion in the 200 Freestyle and the 100 Backstroke and a part of the 200 Medley Relay Team that took first as well.
Hewitt was a state champion in the 100 Breaststroke and was a member of the state championship- winning 200 Medley and 200 Freestyle Relay teams.
The Outstanding Freshman-Sophomore Awards were given to Taryn Abbott and Ben Tillman.
The Most Improved Award went to junior Meagan Baham, who helped all three relay teams to top finishes.
Assistant Coach AJ Bronson spoke on Head Coach Doug Peargin, who finished his 50th season with the Huskies.
“Before coming here I was in Arizona for 10 years, and coached my own high school and club team,” he said. “And I learned a lot, for sure. But coming here, I learned so much more by being able to work with Doug.”
“Every interaction that he has with parents and kids is just remarkable. And so is seeing the lasting impact he has on all the community members. 50 years in one community is an outstanding achievement,” Bronson said.
Peargin said of Bronson “I learned from him too. I saw drills and things that I’ve never seen before, and I actually stole some of his drills from him when he wasn’t looking to have our kids do it. And I know the whole team came out better because of him being in the program.”
As a team, the girls finished second in the state, while the boys placed 16th.
