Marguerite Sade

Marguerite Sade, 99, of Brownsville died on Tuesday, Oct. 4, at Bridgecreek Care Facility in Lebanon.

She was born in Broken Bow, Neb., the daughter of Henry Elijah Morgan and Bertha May (Towle) Morgan.

She grew up in Broken Bow. After a bad tornado, the family moved to Oregon. They settled in North Medford, what is now Medford Airport.

She worked as a hair dresser in Eagle Point until she married Paul Peterson in 1928. They moved to San Francisco, Calif., where he attended Bible college. After he graduated, they toured eastern California then returned to Medford.

Mrs. Sade was a homemaker until they moved to Trail and Mr. Peterson became a pastor of a church. Mrs. Sade played the piano at church and loved to cook and bake. After three years, they moved to Prairie City, and she continued to play piano and be a homemaker. From there, they moved to North Bend to a larger church. They divorced in 1947.

She married Ben Kessler in 1948, and they lived in Broadbent on a dairy farm. They moved several times until Mr. Kessler died in 1961. Mrs. Sade and young son David moved to Grants Pass where they built a house. She worked cleaning motels in Grants Pass before retiring and moving to Brownsville in 1972.

She lived alone, taking care of grandchildren and great grandchildren, making doll clothes and tending her garden and flowers.

She also served others at the Brownsville Senior Center for many years. She met Ray Sade there in 1982. They resided in Brownsville until 2003 when they moved to the Oaks in Lebanon. Mr. Sade was diagnosed with a brain tumor in January 2004. He died in April 2004, and Mrs. Sade went to live at Bridgecreek Care Facility.

She is survived by her sons, Jim Peterson and David Kessler; daughter, Joyce Stephens; 17 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and five great, great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Arthur and Hank; half-brother Leslie; sisters Emma and Sylvia; son Leonard; and daughter Dorothy.
