Princess Bailey is the daughter of Justin and Deana Chafin and has just finished her junior year at Sweet Home High School.
She has an older sister, Paige, 20, and a younger brother, Bryce, 15.
Favorite Activities? Job? Varsity wrestler and team leader all three years of high school and two-time state champion. Played soccer as a sophomore. Manager for track team. I enjoy swimming at the lake. I also like to go to McDowell Creek.
I don’t have an official “job,” but I babysit, housesit and drive tractors for my grandpa.
What is your favorite thing about living in Sweet Home?
The lake: I go year-around.
Why did you join the Sportsman’s Holiday Court?
My family and being a part of the community.
What are you looking forward to during Sportsman’s Holiday? What have you enjoyed so far about being on the court?
I’m looking forward to the Logger Olympics and the parade the most. I really enjoyed visiting the elementary schools (with the court), even though I was injured at the time and didn’t get to go to that many. I really enjoyed going and seeing some of the kids recognize me from everyday life.
What charity/nonprofit did you choose to advocate for and why?
Oregon Special Olympics, Sweet Home High School Unified Sports. I chose this because it’s a little bit personal: My grandparents take care of people with special needs and I have grown up with these people all my life. When they were in high school, they were part of Special Olympics themselves. My mom used to do foster care and some of the people she took care of were in Special Olympics. Sweet Home is trying to add more Unified team sports; they have basketball and kickball right now.
If you had one day to show someone the best day ever in Sweet Home, what would that day look like?
I would go to Sugar Vibes to get some doughnuts, then I would go to The Rio and watch a movie. By the time the movie got over, it would likely be lunch time. I wouldn’t take them to a fast food place; we’re going to All-Star and eating pizza. Next, I would go to a coffee place of their choice to get a drink, then head to the lake for some kayaking or paddle boarding. Once we’re done, we’re watching the sunset and then I’m taking them to Dominoes, where we’re eating Parmesan Bites and then to Dairy Queen for ice cream. (Probably not gonna be a fund day tomorrow if that’s what we eat.)
What advice would you give a younger “you” about school, friendships, other choices?
I would tell my freshman-year self that school actually matters and that you shouldn’t be OK with passing with barely D’s.
Do you have an adult figure who has inspired you? If so, who is that and why?
Coach (Tomas) Rosa. He helped me become an even better wrestler. He never gave up hope on me. He’s always uplifting. There was one time when I was having a bad wrestling practice and couldn’t get a move. I got upset and started crying and he had me stand up and helped me calm down and said I should take a step outside and refresh, then come back in so we could get it right.
What is your favorite subject in school and what are your goals for your final year of high school?
I loved my culinary and sewing classes. They were so much fun. I plan to get all A’s again next year, get back to wrestling, find a college to wrestle at, find more ways to get involved with the community of Sweet Home.
