Meet the Court: Princess Delainie Pratt

Princess Delainie is the daughter of Travis Pratt and Sarah Hale and has just finished her junior year at Sweet Home High School.

She has an older sibling, Sydney Hale, 24. She attended the elementary schools, including Hawthorne Elementary in Sweet Home, where she attended the longest – until sixth grade.

“I have the fondest memories from my great experiences there. My favorite teacher I remember is Ms. Alexander, she was my fourth-grade teacher. She was always so positive and encouraged every kid to do their best and shoot for the stars.”

Favorite Activities? Job?

I’ve been involved in track and field and cross-country. Track has always had a place in my heart. I started track when I was in fourth grade and have continued to grow since. My team and coaches are always there for me and always encourage the best. Cross-country I have a love for, but I’ll admit I definitely regret joining when I’m running a three-mile race. But I always remember that it’s the team and coaches that keep me there, not how good I do.

I am currently employed at the school district in a summer custodial position, as I was last summer. I get sent to a school and work there all summer, helping get it ready for the next school year.

What is your favorite thing about living in Sweet Home?

The way our community comes together in times of need. No matter what, everyone always manages to keep each other afloat.

Why did you join the Sportsman’s Holiday Court?

I applied for Sportsman’s Holiday Court because I wanted to learn and gain valuable skills for the future. I have a friend that was on the court last year and she has nothing but positive things to say about her time she spent on it. She really influenced me to join.

What are you looking forward to during Sportsman’s Holiday? What have you enjoyed so far about being on the court?

Parades. The first parade we have attended was the Strawberry Parade. And I’ll admit it was long, hot, and I felt like my shoulder was going to fall off from all the waving. But it was worth it, the smiles and laughter I received from the crowd and kids is something I’ll always remember.

Being a princess is being a role model and like a fairy tale come true. We not only hold the responsibility of representing Sweethome but the responsibility of making little kids dreams come true. By seeing us in the parade the kids not only realize that princesses are real but that they get to see one. And watching that realization on their faces is the best thing I’ve ever experienced.

What charity/nonprofit did you choose to advocate for and why?

I selected the Kids Food Pak program. They pack food bags that get delivered on Fridays to all our schools. These packs of food are then taken home by children who are in need of food over the weekend. I chose this charity because when I was in elementary school I was fortunate enough to receive the packs they deliver. I never felt different or judged. I just felt cared for. They are a huge role in maintaining kids’ health and overall safety, with what they provide.

If you had one day to show someone the best day ever in Sweet Home, what would that day look like?

I would start with breakfast at The Point with an old-fashioned breakfast that would consist of eggs,  bacon and toast – you can never go wrong with what’s good. Afterwards, we would go on a hike by Green Peter, where you would get to see the great outdoors beauty. For lunch we would have a picnic packed to eat while on the hike. Some great sandwiches of choice and, in my opinion, strawberry lemonade. Afterwards we would go watch a movie that’s showing in The Rio. And for dinner we head to A&W and enjoy some delicious, great food.

What advice would you give a younger “you” about school, friendships, other choices?

To not care what others think about you. I know it’s said but often and it takes time to realize, but eventually, one day, you will realize that your living life for you, not the people around you.

Do you have an adult figure who has inspired you? If so, who is that and why?

Dave Martin. He is my cross-country and hurdles coach. He is probably the most understating man I know. He’s always there and willing to help me grow in my events. And he carries a great amount of educational stories from his life.

What is your favorite subject in school and what are your goals for your final year of high school?

My favorite subject currently is culinary. Ever since I was little, my dad’s always encouraged me to cook and bake. I really enjoy it. In culinary you’re able to learn new recipes and the right way to work in a group. And our teacher Ms. Foley is  very kind and patient with all of her students.
