March 1, 1944 – Nov. 7, 2011
Mervin James Marsh, 67, of Sweet Home, died at his home Nov. 7, 2011.
He was born March 1, 1944 in Salem to Edward and Eloise (Johnson) Marsh. He lived in Sitka, Alaska and Salem before settling in Sweet Home.
He was a devoted husband to Eva and loving father of four daughters. Mr. Marsh enjoyed his family and loved to tease and tell jokes. He had a God-given talent of making people laugh with his witty personality and had a cute chuckle that made people smile and laugh with him.
Mr. Marsh loved to fish and listen to music. He entertained his family and friends most of his life with his singing talent and playing the guitar, without having had any formal lessons. He worked in the restaurant industry for 20 years and also worked at a lumber mill before he retired. He was a wonderful handyman around his house and yard and had a natural skill of repairing, building and creating miscellaneous things needed or desired by his family.
Mr. Marsh was a man of God and spoke wisdom to his family about his relationship with Jesus.
He is survived by his wife, Evangeline of Sweet Home; daughters Shanna Jacobsen of Salem, Kelly Reiser of Silverton, Sherry O’Neil of Portland and Shela Marsh of Sweet Home; sister Jeannie Brinker of Siletz; four nieces; one nephew; and eight grandchildren.
Mr. Marsh was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Melva Taylor.
A memorial service was held Nov. 12 at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. Contributions may be made in Mr. Marsh’s name to Relay for Life to help find a cure for cancer.
Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
