Obituary: Mamie Tabler

Mamie Anna Tabler, 99, formerly of Foster, died Aug. 31, 2010 at Wynwood of Albany.

She was born Feb. 1, 1911 in Foster, one of six children born to Frederick and Emma (Fink) Wodt-li. She grew up in Foster, where at an early age she began working with her father in his sawmill and grist mill. She was very outgoing, vivacious and energetic. She loved school and was active in sports, music, dance and drama.

She met her future husband, William Tabler at the sawmill when he filled his water truck at the mill pond. Bill fell for her, married her and swept her off to California. They later returned to Foster. The couple was happily married for fifty-seven years.

Mrs. Tabler raised her family and had time to be an integral part of the community, serving on the school board, running a grocery store and cooking and cleaning at the school. She retired and moved to Sweet Home, where she lived for seven years. She had lived in Albany for the past 10 years.

She was a longtime member of the Sweet Home Evangelical Church.

She is survived by her daughters, Twilo Scofield of Eugene and Jan Daniels of Albany; a son, Wayne Tabler of Monmouth; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bill in 1985; and a granddaughter, Carolyn Scofield, and her five siblings.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at the Sweet Home Evangelical Church. A private interment was in Lewis Cemetery near Foster.
