Oregon Jamboree delivers $19,215 payout to high school

The 2014 Oregon Jamboree has closed its books and the Sweet Home Economic Development Group is ready to present several Sweet Home organizations with the money that each group earned by volunteering at the event.

On Oct. 13 Erin Regrutto, Oregon Jamboree festival director, and Larry Johnson, Oregon Jamboree vendor check-in supervisor, presented Sweet Home High School officials and the Sweet Home School School District Board of Directors with a check for $19,215.66.

That sum included payouts for boys soccer, softball and the dance team for monitoring three different shower locations; the Josai exchange program, for attending one parking lot; and baseball, cheerleading, dance, girls basketball, football, boys soccer, girls soccer, softball, track, volleyball, and wrestling team members for working the weekend in the Pepsi booths on site at the Jamboree.

Fund-raising efforts not part of this payout include campground can collection by volleyball, dance, cheerleading, Sweet Home Junior High co-curricular activities and the Ice Crew; can and bottle recovery on-site by girls soccer; shower monitoring by the Sweet Home High School pool staff, golf, band, and Junior High co-curricular activities; and parking lot attending by baseball, volleyball, and golf.

Johnson, former athletic director and vice principal, has continued his involvement with the Sweet Home School District in many ways but has facilitated the partnership between the Oregon Jamboree and the district to the utmost benefit of co-curricular activities, Regrutto said. Johnson recruits, assigns, trains and coordinates nearly 200 volunteers from Sweet Home School District every year.

Students, parents, teachers, and administrators have him to thank for more than $25,000 worth of fundraising each year, due to his tireless efforts, Regrutto said. Each group spends its portion of the funds on the equipment, uniforms or training that is most important for the program’s individual needs.
