Oregon State Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash that killed a Sweet Home woman last week at the intersection of Highway 34 and Seven Mile Lane east of Interstate 5.
Anna Marie Myers, 28, died after medics transported her to Samaritan Regional Medical Center.
According to an Oregon State Police report on the crash, at about 7:09 p.m. on Sept. 8, a 1993 Honda Accord driven by James L. Fields, 25, was traveling north on Seven Mile Lane when it failed to stop for a stop sign and entered the intersection. A 2004 Subaru Impreza driven by Christina M. Banks, 35, of Lebanon, in the right eastbound lane of Highway 34 struck the driver’s door. After the impact, the Honda traveled across the highway and came to rest off the north shoulder. The Subaru came to a stop in the westbound lanes.
Fields was transported to Samaritan with serious injuries, police said. Banks was not injured, according to the report.
Banks was wearing a seatbelt, while police have not confirmed whether the victim was using a seatbelt.
The crash remains under investigation by the Oregon State Police Albany Area Command. Trooper Ray Stallsworth is the lead investigator.
Assisting OSP on the scene were Linn County Sheriff’s Office, Tangent Rural Fire District, Albany Fire Department and Oregon Department of Transportation. The highway was restricted to one lane of travel for 90 minutes during the initial investigation.
