The defense added another interception in the second quarter, though Philomath answered with a takeaway of their own. By halftime, the scoreboard read 0-21 in favor of Philomath.
A halftime show was put on by Sweet Home Cheer including their “littles”. Along with them, the Homecoming court made their appearance with families. The Pop Warner kids also made an appearance during halftime, running out with the Huskies after their locker room talk.
In the third quarter, a fumble by Sweet Home was recovered by Philomath, shifting momentum back to the visitors.
“Friday night was a tough game for us,” head coach Ryan Adams said. “We made some plays defensively, forcing three turnovers, but we couldn’t string things together to put ourselves in a competitive position.”
Sweet Home’s offense threw 67% of the time, finishing with 33 completions and averaging 8.3 yards per carry with the run game seeing a 33% rating. Despite the defensive efforts, the team struggled to turn opportunities into points.
“Philomath has talented athletes at every level, and their execution was excellent.” Adams said. “I’m proud of our team for staying focused and continuing to fight to improve, and credit to Philomath for their performance.”
Sweet Home will look to build on their defensive highlights. Next, the Huskies will be on the road against Marist Catholic (4-1) on Oct. 11.
